Solid-State Electrolytes for Grid-Scale Sodium Batteries

Tomoko Yamamoto

A comparative study of sulfide and oxide solid electrolytes for sodium-ion batteries targeted at stationary storage. We report ionic conductivities, interfacial resistance, and dendrite suppression, and argue that earth-abundant sodium chemistries are a credible low-cost path for long-duration grid storage.

Induced Seismicity Risk in Enhanced Geothermal Systems

Nadia Abara

We develop a coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical framework to forecast induced seismicity during stimulation of enhanced geothermal systems. Calibrated against two field projects, the model reproduces observed magnitude distributions and supports a traffic-light operational protocol that reduces peak magnitudes without major loss of injectivity.

Earth-Abundant Catalysts for Alkaline Water Electrolysis

Bassel Haddad & Lina Khoury

We synthesize and benchmark a family of nickel-iron layered double-hydroxide nanocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline electrolyzers. The optimized composition achieves 10 mA/cm2 at an overpotential of 218 mV with 500 h of stable operation, offering a platinum-free route to lower-cost green hydrogen.

Wake Steering for Offshore Wind Farm Power Maximization

Anders Lindqvist & Freja Sorensen

Results from a high-fidelity large-eddy simulation campaign evaluating yaw-based wake steering across a 36-turbine offshore array. Coordinated yaw misalignment increases farm-level annual energy production by 3.1% under representative wind roses, with the largest gains in partial-wake regimes. We provide an open control lookup table.

Carbon Pricing and Merit-Order Effects in Day-Ahead Electricity Markets

Sofia Petrova & Jakub Novak

A causal analysis of how carbon price shocks propagate through day-ahead electricity markets in three interconnected European bidding zones. Exploiting a discrete change in allowance prices, we estimate pass-through to wholesale prices and quantify the displacement of coal by gas and renewables in the merit order.

Stability of Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Cells Under Thermal Cycling

Tomoko Yamamoto, Hiroshi Tanaka & Maya Okafor

We report accelerated thermal-cycling results for monolithic perovskite-silicon tandem photovoltaics across 1,200 cycles between -40 and 85 C. We identify halide segregation at the perovskite/transport-layer interface as the dominant degradation pathway and show that a 2D passivation layer recovers 94% of initial efficiency after cycling. We discuss implications for outdoor module lifetimes.
